Tamara Tripić speaks at Historic Congress of PvdA and Green Party Unification in the Netherlands

This Saturday in Utrecht, over 5,000 people gathered for a landmark congress marking the unification of two progressive parties in the Netherlands – the Labour Party (PvdA) and the Greens.

Tamara Tripić, Chair of the Board of the Democratic Dialogue Network and Secretary General of the CEE Gender Network, was invited to speak on the main panel alongside Jacinda Ardern, former Prime Minister of New Zealand, and Elly Schlein, leader of the progressive opposition in Italy. The panel was moderated by Kati Piri, PvdA Member of Parliament and gracious host of the event.
Tamara shared insights on the ongoing protests in Serbia and the courageous fight of students and citizens for freedom of the media, an independent judiciary, the end of corruption, and a free and autonomous university. She emphasized the importance of dialogue, mutual understanding, and building alliances for a more just society.
Reflecting on Jacinda Ardern’s legacy, Tamara reminded us that empathy and kindness are not only compatible with politics—they are essential to its success. “Solidarity is a magical word,” she said, “but today, it must be lived, not just spoken.”
The panel was met with standing ovations, and the spirit of unity and hope it conveyed signals the strength of Europe’s progressive forces to bring real victories for justice, inclusion, and care for those who need it most.
